                                                             STEMworks Database Overview

STEMworks is Colorado’s source for high-quality STEM education programs. Each program in STEMworks has been independently vetted and cleared a very high bar for quality. WestEd, an independent nonprofit research organization, has reviewed each program against CTEq's Design Principles for Effective STEM Philanthropy and an accompanying Rubric. Business leaders, funders and STEM advocates from across the nation use STEMworks to find proven and highly-scalable STEM education programs to help them maximize their impact on STEM education.

STEMworks Reviewer Overview

Phases of the review process

Phase 1 – Reviewer Training

There will be two reviewer webinar trainings through the organization WestED. The first training will take 1 – 2 hours and will go over the review rubric and general reviews practices. Following this training, reviewers will receive the same two applications from the current application process to use to understand the reviewing process while at the same time contributing to the programs that have applied for 2017. The second webinar training will go through those applications and answer any questions that came out of the reviews.

Phase 2 – Application Assignments & First Round of Reviews

Applications for the 2017 STEMworks Database close on August 18, 2017. After the applications close, reviewers will be assigned applications to review and on August 25, 2017, reviewers begin reviewing their assigned applications. Reviewers will have three weeks to complete their application reviews. At the end of the third week, all reviewers will come together to go over their scoring with their application partners and submit their agreed upon scores.

Phase 3 – Second Round of Reviews

After reviewers submit their scores, the database applicants will receive the reviews and comments and will have two weeks starting on September 11, 2017 to work to answer any questions or fix problems in their applications. After those two weeks have passed, starting on October 2, 2017, reviewers will have two weeks to review any adjustments made to the applications they previously reviewed.  On October 16, 2017, after the two-week review period is over, reviewers will once again come together and finalize their application scores and submit those final scores. WestED will then review the scores and inform all reviewers if the application has been accepted into the Colorado STEMworks Database.

Review Partners

As a reviewer of STEMworks applications, you will work together with fellow reviewers to examine assigned applications and match them against a set rubric. Each application is assigned two reviewers, and you will be assigned between two and four applications based on the number of reviewers. For each application you review, you will have a different review partner.
