Scott McNealy
to Discuss Colorado’s Innovation and Technology
DENVER – July 12, 2012
–Scott
McNealy, former chairman/CEO of Sun Microsystems and one of the early pioneers
of open sourced computing including Java and distributive networked
environments, which today in essence we refer to as the Cloud, will be Colorado Technology Association’s
(CTA) keynote at their 8th Annual DEMOgala.
McNealy,
who launched the phrase "The Network is the Computer,” while he was CEO at Sun
Microsystems, a phrase now trademarked by Oracle, is currently the Chairman and
investor at Wayin, a Denver-based
enterprise social media company.
"Colorado entrepreneurs are making a
dynamic name for themselves in the world of technology and innovation,” said McNealy. "I have been watching Colorado grow as a key
player in this area and know from personal experience with my latest venture,
Wayin, that this state is a great place to start a business.”
McNealy,
who is sought after nationally to talk on the subject of technology innovation
will discuss why entrepreneurs are choosing Colorado as the place to build and
grow their businesses. Colorado’s technology community will benefit from
hearing Scott’s insights.
DEMOgala
provides selected start-ups the opportunity to demonstrate their technology
solutions to an audience of more than a thousand highly influential
participants, including funders, CEO’s and policy makers. This platform
has helped start-up companies receive funding as a result of their demos and make
connections.
DEMOgala is
an anchor event within an entire week of activities surrounding Startup Denver
that will be kicked-off by Denver Mayor Michael Hancock on October 22nd. At DEMOgala, select startups will demo their
products for a chance to win $25,000.
Wayin,
McNealy’s latest entrepreneurial effort, located in downtown Denver, is a
demonstration of his commitment to Colorado. Wayin has received $20.4 million
in funding to date, and has 34 employees. Consumers can utilize Wayin on their
mobile devices and web to share their opinions. Companies can use Wayin
internally to gather sentiments from employees and externally from customers on
social media platforms, like Facebook and Twitter. Wayin also has a product,
TwitPolls, an
interactive polling service that allows Twitter participants to ask questions
of their followers and receive tallied results in real-time. As soon as Wayin and TwitPolls users post content, they
will receive an instant pulse of other people's sentiments.
CTA
will be using Wayin at DEMOgala to amplify the dialog among participants, presenters
and exhibitors.
Additionally,
the annual Apex Awards will be hosted by CTA on Oct 24.
Aimee
Sporer, former CBS4 anchorwoman, will be the M.C. for the two day event along
with Steve Foster, CTA President & CEO.
