Latisys announces National Data Center & Services Expansion

IT infrastructure provider Latisys is adding 72,000 square feet of data center space across four markets, the company said today. With the expansions, Latisys’ total data center footprint exceeds 500,000 square feet across seven data centers in four major markets.

The company also announced availability of the Latisys Cloud, offering on-demand IT infrastructure through a self-service portal. The Latisys Private Cloud offers multiple levels of QoS assigned to different resource pools so that customers can choose the level required for each application.

Latisys expansion highlights include:

* Denver – The first phase build-out of Latisys’ new data center will feature 23,000 square feet of new space and 3.25 megawatts of critical power capacity, and be available in the fourth quarter of 2012.

* Northern Virginia – An addition of 26,000 square feet of new space in an existing data center. The new space, which adds 4.4 megawatts of critical power capacity, will be available in the third quarter.

* Chicago – 10,000 square feet of new space in an existing data center, available in the fourth quarter, will add 1.2 megawatt of of critical power capacity.

* Southern California – An additional 13,000 square feet of new space in an existing data center. The new space will be available in the fourth quarter, will add 1.8 megawatts of critical power capacity.

"The data center has become the commerce zone of the 21st century,” said Pete Stevenson, Chief Executive Officer, Latisys. "There is no longer a commodity relationship between suppliers and buyers of IT. Latisys’ mission is to be a true builder and broker of IT solutions – from colo to cloud – that enable our enterprise customers to rapidly deploy IT solutions optimized to scale to meet current and future business requirements.”

Latisys offers colocation, managed hosting and cloud computing services. Jonathan Sharp, vice president of marketing for Latisys, said the company is seeing demand from across a spectrum of industry verticals. "We’re exclusively focused on the enterprise, and we’re building in every market that we’re in,” said Sharp.

Latisys’ Private Cloud solution requires pre-qualification, a contract and a monthly "cloud reservation fee” in addition to usage-based fees.

"Our cloud approach is to sit down with our customers and help solve their problems,” said Christian Teeft, Vice President of Engineering at Latisys, who said that in developing its cloud offering, "we really went after quality of service. We have three tiers of quality of service that customers can map their offerings to.”

One of the early adopters of the Latisys cloud offering is BlueCava, a provider of device identification technology that enables businesses to improve online advertising effectiveness.BlueCava is expanding and moving to the Latisys Cloud as part of its flexible IT infrastructure solution designed to support rapid growth.
