April 13, 2011 - Legislative Update
On a bipartisan vote of 9-4, House Bill 1293 passed through both the House Economic and Business Development Committee yesterday, and Appropriations Committee earlier this morning.  The bill will now go to the full House of Representatives for two more votes, second reading and third reading, and may be voted on as early as later today.  If the bill passes through the full House, it is expected to go to the full Senate early next week for first reading and then to Senate Committees.  A very special thanks to all the people who contacted your legislators, shared your stories, and testified at committees.  Your voice and anecdotes made a big difference in the direction to success.  But…

We still need your help!
Because this bill still needs to go through three readings in the Senate and two Senate Committees, we need your help by contacting your legislators.  Explain that by supporting HB1293, they are supporting every industry that uses software, e.g. renewable energy, aerospace, healthcare, banks, music, etc.  Software is the engine that supports all growing industries, and we as the State of Colorado want to support these emerging businesses to have headquarters and large operations here.

HB1293 taxes software use in a manner that is easy for businesses across industries to understand, easy to submit to revenue departments, and, takes away the confusion created by last year’s 1192.  Let’s cut the red tape and help Colorado’s economy thrive.

Another way to make sure your voice is heard, is by reading and commenting on the recent article in Denver Business Journal >>
