BOULDER - A prominent Boulder entrepreneur is launching a cooperative for software developers that will attempt to create the world's largest app store.
Robert Reich, founder of social advertising company OneRiot Inc. and founder of the popular Boulder Denver New Tech meetup, announced the project Tuesday.
Reich recently founded Openspace Store Inc. and has started the Developers Cooperative with the purpose of creating a marketplace for app developers where they have greater freedom in development and a voice in management and distribution of their apps.
"Often corporate rulemaking and platform-specific policies of large marketplaces prevent app developers from having the freedom to create and distribute apps the way they want to," Reich said. "We are creating something new in the world of app development: a fair and representative process to make decisions about our store based on the input and interests of developers."
Developers will be able to sell their apps on the Openspace Store website, www.openspacestore.com. Members of the Developers Cooperative will be able to influence the rules and policies that govern Openspace.
"By signing up for the Developers Cooperative, you can help set the agenda and write the rules that govern the sales of your apps. We can help you find the renewed sense of freedom that made you want to be a developer in the first place," the cooperative's website said.
