BOULDER - Two venture capital firms based in the Boulder have pumped at least $2 million in new money into two growing companies.
Existing investor Foundry Group in Boulder reupped its investment in New York-based financial and stock investment company StockTwits, the company said. StockTwits is a community-based site that allows users to discuss stocks and finances online.
True Ventures also put money into the $4 million venture round, bringing the total capital raised by StockTwits to $8.6 million, according to TechCrunch, an online industry blog. Foundry Group's Seth Levine declined to say the specific amount the firm put in.
Greenmont Capital Partners in Boulder invested $2 million into Atlanta-based EcoSMART technologies, a company that develops pesticides derived from natural plant oils.
Greenmont's investment came along with a separate $2 million in a credit facility from Western Technology Investment, based in San Jose, Calif.
Greenmont focuses on finding natural products to invest in. The firm's executives include local heavy hitters Barney Feinblum of Horizon Organic Dairy and Celestial Seasonings; Hass Hassan, a founder of Wild Oats; Todd Woloson, a co-founder of IZZE Beverage Co.; and David Haynes, who most recently was at Boulder Ventures.
