CSIA Opens Apex Award’ Nominations

CSIA today announces nominations are open for their 10th annual Apex Awards 

CSIA today announced nominations are now open for their 10th annual Apex Awards.  Nominations are open to the entire technology community in Colorado and the deadline for entries is May 7, 2010.  Winners will be announced the evening of June 17, 2010 at their awards program. 

The Apex Awards recognizes both successful technology companies and professionals.  There are five categories for companies and five categories for individuals.  Categories include:

Corporate Categories
  • Titan of Technology
  • Technology Company of the Year
  • Technology Product of the Year
  • Technology Services of the Year
  • Rookie of the Year

Individual Categories
  • Bob Newman Lifetime Achievement
  • Technology Executive of the Year
  • Technology Entrepreneur of the Year
  • Top Tech Teacher
  • CSIA Champion of the Year

This year, CSIA will celebrate nominees and winners as well as a ten-year history of technology in Colorado.  The organization’s Steering Committee is chaired by Keith Berets, Partner, Cooley Godward Kronish; Cody Daniels, Partner, Advisory Practice, KPMG; Andrea Young, CIO and VP of Development, BI Incorporated. 

"Apex is the community’s annual event to celebrate the great success of the technology industry, and a way for the community to pause on one night and enjoy the talent, innovation and intelligence of this industry,” said Su Hawk, president, CSIA.  "We are especially excited because this is the 10th year of our awards, and so much innovation has transpired over the decade,” she added.

Category Descriptions:

Titan of Technology - This award is presented to a large technology enterprise headquartered in Colorado that has proven sustainability and longevity.  The company demonstrates true leadership in the community and industry through innovation, reinvention (if needed), focus on business success, customers, as well as the community.  The award winner will also demonstrate stable financials and growth strategy.  (Winners of this category must be headquartered in Colorado.)

Technology Company of the Year - This award is presented to the Colorado-based company whose overall performance sets it apart as a leader in its market segment. The company will be able to show profitability from sales of its products and/or services; strong financial growth or return on investment for its investors and/or shareholders; technical innovation; and concrete examples of how it is meeting a need in the marketplace. The company presented with this award should also be a strong leader in the community and show corporate responsibility. (Winners of this category must be headquartered in Colorado.)

Technology Product of the Year - This award is presented to the company whose technology-based product consistently delivers value. The product must demonstrate a high level of technical innovation and a sustained ability to survive in the marketplace. The winning product of the year will give its customers an exceptional return on investment, cost savings, or migration path for future enhancements. The product may be software or hardware and come from any number of industries such as, but not limited to, Internet applications, telecommunications, aerospace, biotechnology, enterprise software, information technology, energy, sports and the arts.  (Winners of this category must have operations in Colorado.)

Technology Services of the Year  - This award is presented to the company or team whose professional services enable its customers to conduct their businesses more effectively and efficiently. This company has demonstrated not only innovative solutions, but also tangible benefits that customers are deriving from these services. The customer service of this company will be exceptional and demonstrate loyalty to their customers.  The award winner can either be a B2B or B2C firm whose services are either technology based or focused on the technology industry.  (Winners of this category must have operations in Colorado.)

Rookie of the Year - This award is presented to the most promising technology company that has been operating for approximately 18 months or less. Each company applicant will be judged based on the initiative the company took in creating, promoting, or advancing the product or service offered; the technical innovation of the product or service offered; the need in the marketplace for the product or service; and the acceptance by customers of the company's product or service.  (Winners of this category must be headquartered in Colorado.)

Bob Newman Lifetime Achievement - The Lifetime Achievement award is in recognition of Bob Newman, one of the founders of CSIA and the first recipient of the "Outstanding Contribution to the Community” award. This award is presented to an individual who has been a strong champion for the development, research or application of technology in Colorado.  This person has been an ally in supporting the technology sector.  Overall, this individual has made outstanding achievements and commitments to furthering innovative technology in our community and the state, and has contributed to the initiatives of CSIA.  (Winner of this category must be currently based in Colorado.)

Technology Executive of the Year - In honor of the most accomplished technology executive working for a technology or non-technology company, this award is presented to the individual most responsible for leading an organization’s technology development and initiatives. Whether a CEO, CTO, CIO, VP of IT or other comparable titles, this individual is the most senior executive in charge of technology.  Each executive nominee must be based in Colorado and will be judged on additional criteria which can be found above under the judging criteria. (Winner of this category must be currently based in Colorado.)

Technology Entrepreneur of the Year -  The winner of this award includes founders and CEOs who organize, manage and assume risks of the business early in the companies life cycle.  Entrepreneurs are creative, innovative, determined, successful, and pursue many means to the end.  Whether it’s raising capital, finding strategic partners, differentiating their operations, or negotiating unconventional deals, this award recipient is not afraid to propose unique ideas and strategies to be successful. (Winner of this category must be currently based in Colorado.)

Top Tech Teacher - This award is presented to the individual educator whose efforts are making a real and measurable impact on primary and/or secondary students and their understanding, passion for and use of technology. This person should be employed as a teacher, instructor or professor, and either currently teaching a technology-based curriculum to Colorado students or leveraging technology to teach students in new and innovative ways. (Winner of this category must be currently teaching in Colorado.)

CSIA Champion Of The Year - This award is designed to honor the volunteers who contribute a high level of commitment to the organization and industry through their active involvement in committees and initiatives for CSIA.  We welcome nominations from our entire community to thank these tireless volunteers for CSIA. (Winner of this category must be currently based in Colorado.)
