OEDIT and CAMA announce SMART organizational structure
New partnership will help accelerate growth of Colorado's advanced industries
DENVER -Thurs., Feb. 19, 2015-The Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade (OEDIT) is partnering with the Colorado Advanced Manufacturing Alliance (CAMA) to implement SMART Colorado, a public-private partnership focused on accelerating the growth of advanced industries across the state. Initial funding has been secured by a federal planning grant awarded to the State of Colorado by the U.S. Department of Defense, Office of Economic Adjustment (OEA).
"The SMART program is a natural outgrowth of the work that we are doing with the Colorado Blueprint. The next two years will plant the seeds for Colorado to become a leader in advanced manufacturing nationwide," said Fiona Arnold, executive director of OEDIT.
A fundamental objective of SMART Colorado is to build upon Governor John Hickenlooper's Colorado Blueprint economic development strategy to create an innovation ecosystem that enhances the global competitiveness of advanced manufacturing and drives job growth across all of Colorado's advanced industries. True to this bottom-up strategy, CAMA has a built-in board structure that will allow it to quickly engage and start executing on the OEA-funded SMART projects by engaging board members from across the state. Board members will form regional CAMA organizations (RCOs) consisting of regional CAMA board members and other regional manufacturers with particular subject matter expertise. CAMA has worked with existing local manufacturing partnerships or organizations to identify RCO members, creating a collaborative team across various groups. The RCOs will report to an executive team consisting of manufacturers from across Colorado and will oversee and advise Regional Working Groups made up of local stakeholders to ensure that local and regional voices and programs are aligned and form a solid foundation for SMART Colorado.
CAMA is Colorado's first trade association singularly focused on manufacturing in the state of Colorado. CAMA is manufacturers working together to advance manufacturing across the state.
"We are happy to partner with OEDIT to further the objectives of the Colorado Blueprint and implement SMART to ensure continued growth for all Colorado manufacturers," said Chairman of CAMA and CEO of DpiX Frank Caris.
