SLI Raises Record Funds In Grassroots Thanksgiving Donation Challenge
Tuesday, December 02, 2014
Eight years ago, SLI Global Solutions began an annual tradition of participating in the SafeHouse Denver "In the Spirit" program. "In the Spirit" is a program specifically designed to provide holiday assistance to women and children recovering from the effects of domestic violence. SafeHouse Denver speaks to the needs of each family that comes to them for help.
Each year they recognize that the economic struggles facing many of their non-residential families can be even more overwhelming during the holidays. The "In the Spirit" program gives donor families and businesses from the community the opportunity to "adopt" one or more of the SafeHouse families for Thanksgiving. The employees in SLI's Denver office adopt 20 families each year and provide non-perishables for them to prepare Thanksgiving dinner. In addition, SLI adds a gift card for each family to buy perishables.
This year, SLI reached out to employees that live and work on projects in other states to see if they would be interested in organizing or participating in a similar program since they are not local to the Denver area. One remote employee not only donated $100, but put a challenge out to other SLI employees to match her donation. This challenge was met by another SLI employee that announced he would not only meet her challenge, but he would also donate an extra $20 for every other employee that met the challenge as well, and it snowballed… Within one hour, SLI had fourteen employees volunteering to give $100, but it didn’t stop there as another employee announced she would also match every donation with an extra $20.
SLI Global Solutions, as an organization, also has a matching donation program, so each employee donation is matched by the organization dollar for dollar. The result was a grand total of $4,012 along with 20 well stocked holiday meals to be presented to SafeHouse Denver, a record amount for SLI’s Thanksgiving donation program.
“This kind of donation provides a real, and very much needed, boost to a program that delivers life-changing assistance to those most vulnerable among us. The spirit of giving back to the community starts with our caring and generous staff,” said Mark Phillips, SLI President. “SLI is so proud of our contributions, especially during what can be a challenging time of year for so many. Happy Thanksgiving!”
