Competition and $15,000 Cash and Prizes
1,000 Attend Colorado Technology Association’s 9th Annual
DENVER – September 11, 2013 – Colorado
Technology Association (CTA) announcedRach.io,
a Denver-based technology startup, as the winner of the APEX Challenge during
its 9th Annual APEX event at the Hyatt Regency in Downtown Denver on
Tuesday. A $15,000 prize was at stake for the 10 startups invited on
stage to demonstrate their innovative product or service in 4 minutes and 30
seconds to a crowd of more than 1,000 attendees.
APEX was kicked off by CTA CEO, Erik
Mitisek, Adriana Gascoigne of Girls in Tech and Andre Durand, CEO of APEX Award
winning Ping Identity. The day continued
with a keynote from Esri’s President, Jack Dangermond.
Rachio,of Denver, has created an amazingly simple internet connected smart
sprinkler controller that saves the average homeowner hundreds of dollars and
thousands of gallons of water each year. The company also won Denver Startup
Weekend, the "Glorious Failure” contest at the Colorado Innovation Network
Summit and has been selected to compete on Dream Big America.
Nanoly Bioscience, which is working on a way to preserve vaccines without refrigeration, finished second and took home $2,500 and Techstars grad, Brandfolder finished third and also won $2,500.
The APEX Challenge is put on
with the support of CTA Board of Director sponsors Cooley LLP, Hein &
Associates, Ping Identity and SwiftPage. Other startups
included in the APEX startup were: Active Junky, Brandfolder, Intelivideo, MyRounding, Nanoly BioScience, SeedPaths, Splick-It, SupportLocal and
TAGster. CTA is also offered a limited
number of free tickets to the community for the Challenge which also includes the
Sips N Bytes Happy Hour.
