National Network of Manufacturing
Innovation Opportunities

May 15, 2013

Last week, the Obama Administration announced three new pilot institutes as part of the National Network of Manufacturing Innovation(NNMI)- two from the Department of Defense (DOD) and one from the Department of Energy (DOE). This is fortuitous timing for our state as the Colorado General Assembly has just passed landmark legislation in HB13-1001 to support the advanced industries in Colorado, which are drivers of innovation, exports and job growth, and elevate our global competitiveness. This bill, signed into law today by Gov. Hickenlooper, will create three AI grant programs to accelerate commercialization and industry growth.

Our office is excited to leverage these new AI grants to build competitive applications from Colorado for these NNMI pilot institutes. Today, we are issuing solicitations for proposals from Colorado industry and institutions who want to apply, using AI grants as part of the match to the federal funding. Solicitations will be accepted from individuals or teams. If submitting as an individual, our office will look to link your assets, resources and expertise to create a larger team. Solicitations can also include regional or national partners outside of Colorado.

For the DODRequest for Information(RFI)solicitations, we are asking for responses to be submitted to our office bynext Friday, May 24, so that we can submit one cohesive, integrated Colorado-wide response to each DOD RFI in the first week of June. Click here for the Colorado RFI related to the DOD RFIs.

For the DOEFunding Opportunity Announcement(FOA), we are asking for Letters of Intent (LOI) to be submitted to our office byJune 10, so we can create one cohesive and integrated Colorado-wide LOI to the DOE by July 10, and a subsequent application to the DOE on August 29. We look forward to receiving your strongest proposals and working together to win an institute of manufacturing innovation for Colorado. We realize these are short timelines, but in order to put Colorado's best foot forward, we are attempting to assemble the strongest proposals and still comply with federal deadlines.
