Motivation - Counterintuitive Ideas

Are you frustrated by unmotivated team members who could to more?  They just continue to proceed at the pace they've always done.  Maybe you believe it's not your job to motivate others - they need to motivate themselves.  Some fascinating research has been done on this topic. Dr. John Reeb will bring some of this research forward and help you understand why some techniques work sometimes, but not other times.

  • What motivator do you think empowers your team most?  How can you integrate motivators into the project team process?

  • Could higher incentives lead to poorer performance?

  • What are your thoughts on the difference between intrinsic motivators and extrinsic motivators?

  • How much do you trust your employees?  How much do your employees trust you?

Dr. John Reeb is recognized as a leading expert in the field of Leadership and Management Development. As President of the Colorado Leadership Institute, John focuses on developing leaders and managers in creating synergy and eliminating dysfunction in their teams. Engaged employees are what drives companies forward and John’s passion is to help leaders develop engaged employees.

John began his career as a high school teacher (teaching math, PE and computer programming – remember BASIC & Pascal?). He then moved into the IT world as a computer programmer for United Airlines/Covia/Galileo International where he eventually became a Senior Manager. He then moved to the dotcom world in multiple roles (ClickData.com). John moved on to Sabre and then Teradata in Director and Solution Architect roles before founding the Colorado Leadership Institute in 2011. With over 18 years in leadership roles in the IT world, John understands the challenges that IT thought leaders face, both technically and personally. John has earned a BS in Education, MBA in Technology Management and a PhD in Ministry Leadership.
