Industry Impact

CTA is on Capitol Hill fighting for the best interests of the technology industry. We are actively influencing and weighing in on a number of bills that will have an impact on the tech industry. These bills include:

State
  • (Support) SB 14-125, Transportation Network Companies Regulation – Nissa Szabo testified in support of the bill. SB 125 passed the Senate Business, Labor and Technology Committee on a 5-2 non-partisan vote Necessary amendments were added to the bill by the bill sponsors, and then referred. The bill passed through the Senate. The bill is expected to be voted on in the House Transportation Committe on Wednesday, April 9th.
  • (Oppose) HB 14-1269, Marketplace Fairness & Small Business Protection (“Wal-Mart Bill) - Bill hearing scheduled on February 26th in the House Finance Committee. CTA will testified in strong opposition on this bill because of the damaging effects this would have on small businesses. The bill passed the House Finance Committee, and waiting to be heard on the House Floor.
  • (Support) HB 1327132813291330 and 1331 Telecom Reform – CTA has been involved in the stakeholder meeting process. The Telecom Reform Package is expected to be introduced in the next. CTA is supportive of comprehensive telecom reform, and we will focus our efforts on the IP non-regulation portion of the package. The Telecom package passed its first hurdle in the House, and the package is expected to be heard on the House Floor sometime next week.
Federal
  • Immigration – On April 1st the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) began accepting applications for H-1B visas for 2015. The visas are for highly-skilled foreign workers. Because of the limited amount of visas the USCIS expects to receive more than enough applications to fill the cap by April 7. CTA is supportive of comprehensive immigration reform because it is a major piece in solving the talent dilemma facing the technology industry.

Happy National Volunteer Week!

In honor of National Volunteer Week, CTA would like to recognize and congratulate our two Outstanding Volunteers from C-Level @ A Mile High. Both volunteers are seasoned veterans of C-Level @ A Mile High and were a tremendous help to make the event the huge success it was!

Rolf Kramer of Kranect, headed up our new Bidders Committee this year; an initiative to educate attendees about the bidding process as this is our largest fundraising event of the year. Lorraine Gallick, HR & More, participated on several different committees and promoted the event throughout the community. She was a dedicated volunteer that made her self readily available, whatever the task. Thank you, Rolf and Lorraine!

And happy National Volunteer Week to all of our volunteers - thank you for all of your incredible support!

Spring Into Tech!

As we settle down after C-Level, the energy and momentum in the Colorado technology is blazing.  Our public policy work is going well and legislators are engaged in dialogue to improve the technology climate in Colorado. There seem to be more technology events and activities every month – as other industries work to focus on progress through technology (ex. Energy and Healthcare). And, our community is thriving with engagement from early stage companies to our middle market growth companies to our enterprise leaders. Tech in Colorado is a great place to be.
